If Republican's were not so stupid and greedy, they would have wiped out most liberal democrats in statewide and national elections by now. Just as General Petraeus is about to give his mandatory three (3) month progress report on the success or failure of the Iraq Troop Surge, some democratic leaders are bitting their nails with worry that the Petreaus plan might actually be working.
Even before General Petraeus had a chance to get all of his men in place as he built up troop strength around Iraq, some democratic legislators were already calling his plan a failure and even one democratic leader, Harry Reid, pronounced the War in Iraq lost. I believe most Americans are now against the War in Iraq because for the past two or three years things have not been going well on the ground and no one wants to get up in the morning and hear about another car bomb going off that killed hundreds of civilians and soldiers.
We Americans have a difficult time remembering bad events that happen to us. I believe the reason that happens to us is because most people in America are religious and the bible teaches us that we should forgive our enemies. While that attitude is a healthy one sent directly from God, the bible also says that there will always be war and rumors of war here on Earth. If the American people really understood the hatred that some extremest have against our nation and our way of life, it would be difficult for them to sleep at night knowing that while they are sleeping, someone half way around the world is plotting their death.
I believe that even though most Americans are tired of the War in Iraq, down deep inside they do not want us to leave Iraq immediately. Most folks know that victory is always better than defeat and they also know that there will be consequences for an early U.S. troop withdrawal from Iraq. Just like in Vietnam, an early and quick U.S. troop withdrawal will cause a bloodbath for those that supported U.S. efforts in that country and the United States should not turn it's back on friends even if it seems like the politically correct thing to do for some ambitious U.S. lawmakers.
